You don’t have to renew Vaasan Sähkö’s Basic Electricity contract at regular intervals, making it a convenient choice. The price is updated four times a year, following market prices – sometimes increasing, sometimes decreasing. You can easily switch to another contract if you wish, because the Basic Electricity contract does not bind you to a fixed term.
Basic Electricity is particularly suitable if you want to keep things simple when it comes to your electricity supply, don’t want to monitor your consumption on an hourly basis, or don’t want to commit to a fixed-rate, fixed-term contract.
We extensively use various production methods in the generation of Basic Electricity.

Questions about electricity
In our quarterly products, the energy price is adjusted four times a year. The price periods are 1 January to 31 March, 1 April to 30 June, 1 July to 30 September and 1 October to 31 December. We will send a price notification for the next three-month period at the latest one month before the period begins. You can then find the new prices on our website also.
With Vaasan Sähkö’s Basic Electricity and Wind Power contracts, you benefit from decreases in the market price, and at the same time you are protected against rapid increases in the market price. The price fluctuations are not as large as with a contract based solely on the electricity exchange price.
Typically, electricity is cheaper from March to September and more expensive during the winter months.
The price of electricity consists of the cost of the electricity itself, the electricity transmission, and electricity taxes and VAT.
You pay the energy price to the electricity supplier on your electricity bill. The electricity transmission price is determined and billed by your electricity grid company. Both bills also include taxes: you pay electricity tax based on your own electricity consumption and as part of the electricity transmission bill – that is, the grid service invoice. VAT is charged on the energy price of electricity, electricity distribution, electricity tax and the strategic stockpile fee.
You can choose the electricity supplier that best suits you, no matter where you live. Unlike the customer relationships with electricity transmission companies, electricity suppliers are not tied to any geographical area. Compare electricity suppliers and choose the one that offers the service you want, along with the type of electricity contract you want at a price that suits you.
And of course, the size of the electricity bill also depends on your electricity consumption habits. The age and energy efficiency of electrical appliances also affect energy consumption.
If you have an indefinite-term contract, you can make a change of contract within a 14-day exchange period.
Our indefinite-term contracts include Basic Electricity, Wind Power, Exchange electricity, and Exchange electricity Wind.
If you are a Vaasan Sähkö customer, you can easily review your contract through the Vaasan Sähkö app, our Online service on our website (only in Finnish or Swedish), or by contacting our customer service.
If you live in the Vaasan Sähkö grid area
- we will send you one bill, charging your for both the electricity used and the electricity transmission.
If you live elsewhere in Finland
- you will only receive an electricity bill from us as an electricity customer. The local transmission company will charge you separately for the electricity transmission on a separate bill.
We do not charge an additional fee for a paper bill, but we recommend electronic billing for our customers.
