In today’s society, electric means of transport are becoming increasingly common, data centers demand more electricity and electric fuels are more widely used. The need for electricity is clearly growing. That is why Finland needs more emission-free energy production.
Wind-generated electricity still has great potential for growth. At the end of 2023, Finland’s wind power generation capacity was almost 7 gigawatts. The same year Finnish wind power produced 14,5 terawatt hours of wind-generated electricity.

Vaasan Sähkö is one of the largest producers of wind power in Finland. Our wind power is generated in Finland on wind farms in for example Vaasa, Tornio, Kristinestad and Ilmajoki. Our latest investment in wind power is a wind farm in Norrskogen in Närpes, western Finland. It generates 140 gigawatt hours of emission-free electricity on an annual basis. This amount of electricity is sufficient to cover the electricity consumption of around 7,500 electricity-heated detached houses.

Is Wind Power more expensive than other electricity?
Which electricity contract is best for you depends on your electricity consumption habits.
Compared to Vaasan Sähkö’s Basic Electricity, which is also a fixed-price and indefinite-term electricity contract, Wind Power is slightly more expensive per kilowatt-hour. We buy renewable electricity guarantees of origin for the renewable electricity we sell, and this adds an additional cost that is covered by a small increase in the price of renewable electricity.
When will the electricity price be reviewed?
In our quarterly products, the energy price is adjusted four times a year. The price periods are 1 January to 31 March, 1 April to 30 June, 1 July to 30 September and 1 October to 31 December. We will send a price notification for the next three-month period at the latest one month before the period begins. You can then find the new prices on our website also.
How often can I switch from one contract to another?
If you have an indefinite-term contract, you can make a change of contract within a 14-day exchange period.
Our indefinite-term contracts include Basic Electricity, Wind Power, Exchange electricity, and Exchange electricity Wind.
How can I be sure that I can get electricity produced by wind power when I choose Wind Electricity?
As an electricity supplier, we must not sell more electricity certified as Wind Power than we have produced or otherwise acquired. The origin of the electricity is verified with guarantees of origin. Thus, as a buyer of renewable electricity, you can be sure that wind power is also produced as much as you use electricity.
How much renewable energy does Vaasan Sähkö sell?
The electricity sold by Vaasan Sähkö in 2023 by energy source:

In 2023, the CO2 specific carbon-dioxide emissions of electricity sold by Vaasan Sähkö were 145.12 g per kWh. In the production, 1.41 mg of used nuclear fuel was generated per kWh.
