Electricity contract for a terraced house
Electricity consumption in terraced houses can vary significantly, depending on whether the home uses electric heating or not. In homes with electric heating, summer and winter bills differ greatly due to varying heating needs.
Vaasan Sähkö’s electricity products are suitable for all terraced house residents. For predictable electricity bills, choose the fixed-term Fixed contract, which offers a fixed price throughout the contract period. For a flexible, open-ended solution, opt for Exchange Electricity, Wind Power, or Basic Electricity, which remain valid until you decide to terminate the contract.
How to choose an electricity contract for a terraced house
The range of electricity contracts and electricity prices can be confusing. Below, we explain how our contracts differ from each other, so you can easily choose the one that suits you best.
Choosing an electricity contract has a big impact on your household’s carbon footprint.
- All of Vaasan Sähkö’s electricity products are emission-free, produced using either nuclear power or renewable energy. Their origin is verified with guarantees of origin (GO).
- Wind Power and Exchange Electricity Wind are produced using renewable energy.
Fixed-term or open-ended electricity contract for a terraced house?
A fixed-term electricity contract is best for you if you want an as predictable electricity bill as possible. With a fixed-term contract, your electricity price is fixed for the entire contract period, so only changes in your electricity consumption affect your energy bill.
In case of moving, the fixed-term contract can be terminated before the end of the contract period, so you won’t be stuck with two electricity contracts.
- Fixed is our fixed-term contract.
An open-ended electricity contract is the choice if you want a longer-term electricity agreement. It lasts until you cancel the contract. However, you are also free to change your mind and switch contracts at any time with a two-week notice period.
We strive to keep the price of our open-ended electricity contract as stable as possible. It is based on the market price of electricity, which can affect the price either by lowering or raising it. We will notify you in advance of any price change, so you won’t have to worry about sudden price hikes.
- Basic Electricity is open-ended.
- Also Wind Power is an open-ended contract where the electricity is produced renewably with wind power.

What makes up the electricity bill for a terraced house?
When talking about an electricity bill, it usually refers to the energy charge, which is the part of the bill where you pay for the electricity you’ve used (in € per kWh), along with the monthly base fee (in € per month). You pay this part to your electricity supplier.
The second part of the bill is the distribution charge, which you pay to the local distribution company. The distribution fee is used to cover the costs of transporting electricity to your home.
If your electricity supplier and distribution company happen to belong to the same corporate group, you will receive everything mentioned above on a single bill. So, if you live within the Vaasan Sähköverkko distribution area and are our customer, you will receive just one bill.
Customers living elsewhere in Finland will receive their energy bill from us. The distribution fee is still paid to the local distribution company on a separate bill. This does not affect the price of your electricity. You can confidently order electricity from Vaasan Sähkö anywhere in Finland.
Finding the right electricity contract
Easily reduce your electricity bill in a terraced house – 5 tips
- Always compare contracts when moving or when your fixed-term contract ends. It’s also worth comparing your contract every couple of years, even for a contract with no fixed term.
- Save 5% on heating by lowering your electric heating by one degree.
- Use your sauna smartly. The energy-efficient sauna temperature is 70–80 degrees Celsius. The residual heat is enough to dry the sauna, so turn off the stove after use.
- Reduce energy consumption by 30%: heat the hot water to (no less than) 55 degrees instead of 80.
- Consider adding an air-source heat pump alongside your electric heating. It can, at its best, produce up to three or four times as much heat as the electricity it consumes.
