a hassle-free electricity contract without a fixed term

What is the difference between a fixed-term and an indefinite-term Basic Electricity contract?

A fixed-term electricity contract and an indefinite Basic Electricity contract are quite similar in that both have a fixed price.

The difference between them is that under a Basic Electricity contract, the price is adjusted every three months, so you’ll be able to benefit from electricity price fluctuations. With a fixed-term electricity contract, the price remains the same throughout the entire contract period (6 months, 12 months or 24 months).

An indefinite-term Basic Electricity contract also offers more flexibility: since you’re not bound to a specific contract period, you can change to a different contract at any time. If you choose a fixed-term, fixed-price contract, by contrast, it’s not possible to change until the contract period ends.

A fixed-term electricity contract has the same price throughout the contract period, so there will be no surprises. This makes costs more predictable and protects you from price increases, but also deprives you of any benefits from falling market prices during your contract period.

Basic Electricity is a flexible and carefree alternative, since you can benefit from the fluctuations in energy prices and can change to a different contract at any time.

In other words, a fixed-term contract is the best choice if your priorities are price stability and predictability, whereas an indefinite contract gives you the freedom of choosing differently, at any time.

3 reasons to choose Basic Electricity contract

Up-to-date prices

In the Basic Electricity contract, the electricity price is updated four times a year, following the fluctuations in the market price of electricity. The price remains fixed for three months at a time. Vaasan Sähkö announces the price for each upcoming three-month period one month in advance.

Flexible and easy

Basic Electricity is a carefree and convenient choice for saving money on electricity. You’ll always know what you will be paying for electricity for the next three-month period. And because the contract does not include a fixed term, you can change to a different contract whenever you want.

Questions about
Basic Electricity

When will the electricity price be reviewed?

In our quarterly products, the energy price is adjusted four times a year. The price periods are 1 January to 31 March, 1 April to 30 June, 1 July to 30 September and 1 October to 31 December. We will send a price notification for the next three-month period at the latest one month before the period begins. You can then find the new prices on our website also.

How does the market price affect the price of electricity?

With Vaasan Sähkö’s Basic Electricity and Wind Power contracts, you benefit from decreases in the market price, and at the same time you are protected against rapid increases in the market price. The price fluctuations are not as large as with a contract based solely on the electricity exchange price.

Typically, electricity is cheaper from March to September and more expensive during the winter months.

How often can I switch from one contract to another?

If you have an indefinite-term contract, you can make a change of contract within a 14-day exchange period.

Our indefinite-term contracts include Basic Electricity, Wind Power, Exchange electricity, and Exchange electricity Wind.
